Ancient Roots and Ottoman Rule:

The Muslim claim over the land of Palestine is deeply rooted in history and religious significance. According to Islamic tradition, the connection to the land dates back to the 7th century and the time of the Prophet Muhammad. The Muslim claim to the land of Palestine began with the Islamic conquests led by Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab in the 7th century. Jerusalem, known as Al-Quds in Arabic, was conquered in 638 CE. Later On, The Ottoman Empire’s rule shaped the region until its occupation by British mandate after World War I .

The British Mandate and Balfour Declaration:

Post-World War I, the League of Nations granted Britain the mandate to govern Palestine. The Balfour Declaration in 1917 expressed British support for a “national home for the Jewish people” in Palestine. These early decisions set the stage for later tensions.

The UN Partition Plan and Independence (1947-1948):

In 1947, the United Nations proposed a partition plan to create separate Jewish and Arab states. Israel declared independence in 1948, leading to the Arab-Israeli War. This conflict resulted in Israel gaining territory and the displacement of Palestinians ,called the “Nakba”, setting the stage for ongoing disputes and war and yet another key event in Palestine and Israel history.

Six-Day War and Territorial Changes (1967):

The Six-Day War in 1967 saw Israel occupy the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights. These territorial changes intensified tensions, became a focal point for future negotiations, and served as a primary catalyst for ongoing conflicts, subsequently giving rise to freedom fighters in Gaza.

Peace Efforts and the Oslo Accords (1990s):

The post-1967 occupation led to ongoing war over borders, settlements, the status of Jerusalem, and the rights of refugees. International actors, including the United Nations and various peacekeeping bodies, have been involved in mediating and influencing the peace process but remains ineffective. Periodic escalations in tensions continue to result in conflicts, contributing to humanitarian concerns. The situation remains dynamic, with efforts ongoing to address the root causes and seek a lasting resolution.

Current War Between Palestine and Israel :

The latest chapter in the enduring Israel-Palestine conflict was ignited when Hamas,  An Islamic Resistance Movement, launched rocket attacks against Israel. Israel in response escalated war on Palestine and prompted a forceful response on Gaza.

Israeli forces launched a comprehensive aerial and ground assault on Hamas in Gaza following a cross-border incident initiated by the ruling group on October 7. According to figures from the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 23,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since then. In parallel, Israeli tallies report the death toll from the Hamas incursion into Israel at 1,200 individuals. The conflict has resulted in a significant and tragic loss of life. The massive scale of civilian causalities has drawn serious allegations of genocide against Israel, with South-Africa filing a case of genocide against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

As the violence intensifies, the international community watches with deep concern, urging restraint and a return to diplomatic efforts to quell the hostilities.
